Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains, in simple language, how PlateIQ handles your information. As the project grows, this page may be updated to match the technical reality more closely.

1. Who runs PlateIQ

PlateIQ is created and operated by an individual developer (the “creator”). When this policy says “we”, “us” or “PlateIQ”, it refers to that creator and any future team members.

You can contact the creator at: admin@plateiq.co.uk

2. Information PlateIQ may collect

Depending on how you use PlateIQ (website, app, email, beta testing), the following types of information may be collected:

  • Contact details – e.g. your name and email if you subscribe, apply as a BETA tester, or contact support.
  • Usage information – basic information about how you use the app (such as general feature usage, screens visited, device type).
  • Food / habit entries – when you manually log meals, notes, or habits inside the app.
  • Photos you submit – if you use AI food recognition, your photos may be processed by an AI service to generate estimates.
  • Technical information – such as approximate region, browser type, and similar, where this is automatically provided by your device or browser.

PlateIQ does not intentionally collect highly sensitive information such as passwords for other services, payment card details (those are handled by payment providers), or government ID numbers.

3. How your information may be used

Information is used for purposes such as:

  • Providing the core PlateIQ features (logging, tracking, AI estimates, stats).
  • Improving the app and fixing bugs (understanding crashes, errors, or confusing flows).
  • Sending you updates if you have subscribed or applied to be a tester.
  • Responding to your messages and support requests.
  • Managing BETA access, such as adding/removing testers.

Your information is not sold to data brokers or used for “random” unrelated advertising.

4. Emails, subscriptions & BETA testing

If you use the subscribe form or apply as a BETA tester, your name, email, and any information you provide in the message or answers will be visible to the creator.

  • Your email address is used to send you PlateIQ updates, beta invites and important notices.
  • You can ask to be removed from any mailing list at any time by emailing admin@plateiq.co.uk.
  • Beta testers may be contacted more frequently for feedback, bug reports and feature testing.

5. Payments & subscriptions (future)

In the future, PlateIQ may offer premium features (“PlateIQ+”) and use third-party payment providers such as Stripe or in-app billing on app stores.

  • When that happens, payment information (like card details) will be processed by those providers, not directly by PlateIQ.
  • PlateIQ may receive limited information such as your name, email, and subscription status for account management.
  • You should review the privacy policy of any payment provider you use.

6. Data storage & retention

Because PlateIQ is in active development and may use external services, the exact storage locations and technologies may change over time. However, the general principles are:

  • Data is stored only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the app to function, to improve the service, or to meet legal/administrative requirements.
  • Test and beta data may be reset or deleted during development or technical changes.
  • If you request removal from email contact lists, your details will no longer be used for mailing list purposes.

7. AI services & image processing

When you use features such as AI food recognition, your images or text may be sent to an AI service so it can generate estimates (for example, what the meal likely is and rough calorie information).

  • Images are used for analysis and generating outputs for you inside PlateIQ.
  • Service-level logs or anonymised data may be kept by the AI provider to keep the system working and prevent abuse.
  • AI outputs are estimates only and may be inaccurate – see the Disclaimer for details.

8. When information may be shared

PlateIQ does not sell your data. Information may be shared only in limited situations, such as:

  • With service providers that help run the app (e.g., hosting, analytics, email services, AI processing).
  • If required by law, regulation or legal process (for example, responding to a valid legal request).
  • To protect the rights, safety or property of the creator, users, or others, where legally appropriate.

9. Your choices

Depending on where you live, you may have formal legal rights about your data. Even without that, PlateIQ aims to behave reasonably and respectfully with your information.

  • You can ask to be removed from email lists at any time.
  • You can ask general questions about what data is held about you.
  • In future, as the app stabilises, more structured ways of viewing or removing some of your data may be added.

To make a request, email: admin@plateiq.co.uk

10. Children

PlateIQ is not designed for very young children. If you are under the minimum legal age in your region to use apps like this on your own, you should only use PlateIQ with a parent or guardian’s permission.

If you believe a child has provided information without appropriate consent, please email admin@plateiq.co.uk.

11. Changes to this Privacy Policy

As PlateIQ grows and the technical setup evolves, this Privacy Policy may be updated.

  • Updates will be posted on this page with an updated date.
  • If changes are significant, a note may be added in the app or via email/Discord.
  • Continuing to use PlateIQ after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.

12. Contact
